    Screw matte displays!
    I take shiny over everything.
Shiny you can take out in the sun in worst case scenario, and still see webpages, impossible with matte displays.
I do hope that they will create glossy LCD's with a filter spray on top, like used on old TV's and monitors though!
That way you can keep the sharpness, while reducing the background noise a bit.

Last time I checked matte displays are easier to read in the sun...

    That is retarded.

Why don't notebook LCD makers just use whatever Garmin uses on their GPS's? They are sunlight readable and look great under any condition.

WTF is a "chiclet-style" keyboard? Don't all notebook keyboard keys look like chiclets?
  • JarredWalton - Tuesday, January 5, 2010 - link

Chiclet keyboards have the keys as little "islands" with plastic spacing in between, as in this photo:

Other laptops take a different approach, for example this is from an 11.6" Acer 751h:

  • jastoh - Tuesday, January 5, 2010 - link

everyone seems to be going for the pinetrail which IMHO isn't much of an improvement over the older platform

Ion based netbooks - still lacking

Is there info on any cool tablet convertibles on the horizon?
It seems like the new teach is finally where we will be able to get one that's light enough, but with decent performance, even in 3d apps and games, and at the same time has solid battery life... with multitouch and the kinks as well.
The question is, has anyone decided to build it yet?

I can't decide if I should go for the Acer 1420p/1820p with dualcore 45nm culv and X4500, which was announced last month and so is the current bleeding edge of tablet netbooks... at the same time it is old tech already before it has even arrived, but I don't know if there is a hope that we'll see something on the new platform any time soon.

X100e in "Heatwave Red" please!! So Sexy!

Think pads still offering track-point. IMO the only way to fly....:)

  • strikeback03 - Tuesday, January 5, 2010 - link

Agreed. Also I'm not sure why more netbooks dont try them, with the complaints about small trackpads and all.

I am looking forward to this read!

I'm not a big Apple lover, but I'd be interested to hear more about a large form factor iPod Touch (~8-10"), I think it's been rumored to be called the iSlate.

I know Apple is not at CES this year, but have you heard anything from any other attendees on the floor?
  • Zstream - Tuesday, January 5, 2010 - link

Sweet, going to purchase the X100 tomorrow!

These netbooks and SULV laptops are sure looking nice these days...

Wife has an OLD Thinkpad T30 laptop...bluetooth and lcd close switch is dead, fan is dying, but hey it's 7? years old, running XP just fine and is faster than many netbooks (that I've tried).

    Hmmm...which one to get....
  • cheetah2k - Monday, January 11, 2010 - link

They sure are looking nice, but feature wise they're still lacking. I consider a true netbook, one of full mobility. So why then are 95% of the netbooks out there lacking a 3G modem (or even the option of a 3G modem)??

I just bought the Asus 1000HG, and with full 3G mobility, its a true netbook. I hope Asus continues to push the bleeding edge of the netbook industry with its Eee series, because even with all the pretty colors, everyone else is having to catch up.

Mark my words; you're going to CES next year, Jarred! ;-)
